For maximum effect, read this with your AirPods in and Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams playing in the background. Trust me.
Valentine’s Day was last week and lovers wanted to finish us everywhere 😭
They were peppering us with posts, flowers, soft life, matching outfits, surprise dinners… everywhere you turned — LOVE.
Now here’s the thing, before last week, I never actually knew where Valentine’s Day even came from. Like most of us, I just knew it as the day people ask “Will you be my Valentine?”
I didn’t know the actual story behind it.
And the funny thing is… I didn’t go looking for the story randomly.
Soooo today I’m here to tell you people how I discovered the origin of Valentine’s Day……it all started with a walk to the park.🥹

On this particular day, I was bored of being in the house and decided to go for a walk to a nearby park.
The sunset was beautiful, and as you already know, I love making videos, so I was trying to film the sunset with a cinematic effect.
I had my AirPods in, music playing, vibes flowing… and I was walking backwards while filming.
Yes 🙂
Walking backwards.
Because apparently I like stress.
Next thing, I bumped into someone.
I turned around to apologize… and guys…
I was met with the most handsome person ever…….like yoooo
Tall. Dark. Sleeveless top. Arm tattoos.
And I just froze for like two seconds because wow wow wow 😭
He started apologizing, which brought me back to reality, and so I apologized too. Apparently, he was jogging and checking his watch to see how many kilometers he had run, so he also wasn’t looking up.
Both of us had our music playing. Both of us not paying attention.
Was it destiny or just lack of situational awareness? We may never know and I don’t really care 😂😂
Anyway, we both apologized and just went our separate ways.
Fast forward to a few days later, I went back to the same park because I was ‘bored’ 😜 and as God would have it, I ran into him again….. jogging.
This time though, he decided to introduce himself to me since we had now bumped into each other twice…..you know like a rom-com script. LOL!
We talked, and discovered we both loved music, which made sense because we both always had our AirPods in, the icing on the top was that we also had almost the exact same taste in music. I was like God……I hope this is a sign that will not come with wonders later? 😩🫠
Long story short guys, from there, we started meeting up at the park occasionally. Talking. Sharing playlists. Having long conversations about life.
Sometimes we’d share one AirPod each and just sit quietly listening to music together.
Nothing loud. Nothing dramatic. Just soft.
And to be honest, this has given me a different picture of love, that maybe love isn’t always fireworks. Maybe sometimes it’s just quiet comfort.
Now let’s fast forward a bit, as Valentine’s Day was approaching I really wasn’t expecting anything because it’s not like we were a ‘thing’.
We were just… vibes and playlists 😌IYKYK
So imagine my surprise when I got flowers delivered to my door.
Flowers.
With a note.
Signed…
“Your Valentine.”
I found it cute but at the same time the Nigerian babe in me jumped out was like excuse me??? 😭my brother you haven’t even asked me if I want you to be my Val…what do you mean by ‘Your Valentine’ and I asked him why he signed it that way…..
That’s when he casually mentioned that it actually comes from the original story behind Valentine’s Day.
And I was like hold on… there’s a story???
Because a lot of us have just been shouting Valentine’s Day every year without even knowing the origin 😭
So yeah you already know I went to read about it and now I’m here to share it with you guys….

Valentines Day traces back to a man named Saint Valentine, he was a Catholic priest in the 300s AD and at that time, practicing Christianity was considered a crime, so he was arrested and thrown in jail.
The punishment? Death.
Now while he was in prison, he fell in love with the warden’s daughter — and fun fact, she was blind.
(I’m going to also assume that’s where the phrase “love is blind” came from but let me not digress 😅.)
The night before he was executed, he wrote her a love letter telling her how he felt, and at the end of the letter he signed it…
“Your Valentine.”
Side note though — how did he expect her to read the letter if she was blind? Anyway, that’s just me thinking out loud 😂.
The next day, he was executed.
Fast forward to the 1800s, the story had become a legend across Europe. People found it so endearing that they decided to honor him by picking a day dedicated to celebrating love. So they picked February 14th because they believed that was the day he died.
And that, guys, is basically how Valentine’s Day came to be.
Beautiful story… slightly dramatic… but beautiful 😌
And I just thought to share it with you guys because I’m very sure most of you people, your own Valentine has not told you the meaning. 😛😂
You people have just been shouting Valentine’s Valentine’s Valentine’s 😌
Anyway…
Back to my story because luckily for us, my Valentine is not in prison, I am not blind, and nobody is being executed tomorrow 😭
I mean he might be executed if he does not act right… but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.
Now guys..… this story may or may not be fictional.
I’ll leave that for you to decide.
But the real question is….
Did it make you smile?
Did it make you feel soft for a moment?
I hope it did, because I was literally giggling while writing it…..and at the end of the day, love stories, whether it’s real or imagined remind us that love can and should feel gentle.
And sometimes… that’s enough.
If you smiled, then welcome to Episode 1 of my Delulu Love Life 🤭
See you in Episode 2.

With love,
Beks 💜
